The possibilities of employing homeopathy in dentistry lie on the one hand within a preventative approach and on the other hand in acute and chronic conditions.
The homeopath will always look for the most appropriate means and ask a many questions about how the complaints manifest themselves on both a physical and mental level. Every person is unique and each person has his own individual experience.
The choice of the medicines strength and dosage are based upon primary sensitivity. But this does depend upon other complaints, peculiarities and problems that the patient has, as it is considered important to either prescribe only for the acute complaints or for the entire constitution.
Which complaints can be considered:
The breaking through of teeth and molars
Pregnancy
the changing of teeth
Tooth decay (cavities)
Fear
Trauma (including dental and maxillofacial surgery)
Bleeding, bleeding gum’s, gum infection (Gingivitis)
Periodontal disease
Toothache, hypersensitive teeth
sores
Herpes labial = fever rash
Teeth grinding
Fistulas
Bad breath
The breaking through of teeth and molars.
The small child can react aggressively to breaking through of new teeth and molars, both with the milk teeth and with the wisdom teeth.
The breaking through of the milk teeth is no small occurrence for a child between 1/2 and 2 ½ years old. The breaking through of a single tooth can trigger reactions throughout the child’s body:
There may be symptoms of agitation, extraordinary irritation, whining, wailing, impatient, hypersensitivity to pain, crying for a long periods of time, sometimes the child wants to be carried around for a long time, sometimes it is angry and does not want to be touched, it can also be crying or waking up with a fright or not being able to sleep at all.
Physical complaints can also occur; intestinal cramps, colds, (high) fever, diarrhea: yellow-green mucous, undigested diaper rash, grinding of teeth, violently biting the jaws or something hard, excessive salivation, inflamed mucous membrane of the mouth, foul breath, tongue mucous, (throbbing) pain.
The breaking of the permanent teeth generally gives little pain or complaints.
The wisdom tooth, the third tooth that breaks between the seventeenth and thirtieth years, can cause problems, usually in the lower jaw. (link choose wisdom)
Classical Homeopathy has many means for “break through problems”.
Pregnancy
Due to an altered hormone level during pregnancy, the gums may be more sensitive. The irritation of the gums can cause a mild inflammation, resulting in red, swollen and bleeding gums, the so-called pregnancy inflammation of the gums (gingivitis). In addition to good brushing, homeopathy also has medicines to support and cure
The changing of teeth
The difficult, painful and / or delayed of teeth coming through. Often there is a more general delay in the development of the child.
This can be favorably influenced with the appropriate constitutional homeopathic remedy.
Tooth decay
The homeopathic remedies that are used when the metabolism of one or more minerals is being disturbed are mainly constitutional remedies. It is important with weak milk teeth (i.e. lots of fillings) to use the right constitutional remedies as early as possible and prevent as much as permanent damage as soon as possible.
Fear.
Anxiety is not unimportant in dentistry. Constitutional treatment can help you manage your anxiety better.
Trauma (including intervention by the dentist or dental surgeon).
Trauma is the result of a blow or other external force. For example, there are quite a few types of trauma for the teeth and the jaw. Dental surgery also essentially causes trauma. Help can be provided with swelling, bleeding, nerve damage, bone and peritoneum, inflammation of the wound, after filling and / or pulling a wisdom tooth, injection site pain due to poor tolerance to the anesthetic fluid, pain after severe shock.
Also preventively, certain medicines can be used for both small and large dentist or surgeon procedures.
They can provide better and faster healing with less pain, less bleeding, less infection risk and better wound healing.
Bleeding and gum bleeding
It is very important for people with a tendency for excessive bleeding to inform the dentist.
It is best to go to the dentist when there a significant post treatment bleeding.
There are homeopathic remedies that can have a positive effect on bleeding, even after surgery.
Gum bleeding can be a part of a general tendency to bleed, the appropriate constitutional homeopathic medicine will help. Good oral hygiene is very important for the prevention of bleeding and gum infections.
Gingivitis (Gingivitis)
There are several medicines that have a positive effect on the health on the gums and teeth; and depending on several factors (oral hygiene, constitution etc.) the best and correct medicine can be determined.
Periodontal disease
Periodontal diseases are infections of the structures around the teeth, which include the gums, ligaments and bone. In the earliest stage of periodontal disease – gingivitis – the infection affects the gums. In more severe forms of the disease, all of the tissues are involved. From a homeopathic point of view, and given the individual tendency for it, the constitutional medicines are the most appropriate for treating this disease.
Toothache and hypersensitive teeth
-general sensitivity
-after drilling, occurring immediately or later
-nerve treatment, abscess
-different types of pain with different causes
Ulcers
An ulcer is a small sore and can be very painful. The cause is unknown and is a typical constitutional occurrence and is very important in homeopathy.
Herpes labial = fever rash
It is a type of fever blister that often occurs with a weak condition or longer exposure to the sun. The herpes virus is at play. With the right homeopathic remedies, low immunity resistance is improved so that the herpes will show less frequently.
Teeth grinding
Crunching while sleeping is often a release of tension. Homeopathic medicine is again the most important path to an improved constitution.
Fistulas
A dental fistula is a small canal that’s formed from the top of a tooth to the surface of the oral cavity near the gums. The passage acts as a reservoir for pus or other infectious discharges. On the surface, this often manifests itself in a red or yellow bump, sometimes with a scab. Occasionally pus comes out, after which the bump often disappears completely or temporarily, until new pus has formed again. The therapy should primarily focus on the cause; the underlying process may be chronic inflammation.
Bad breath
It is important to try to find the cause and to eliminate it: bleeding gums; disorders of the nose, throat, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, liver and kidneys; holes or too little saliva formation etc.
